We are redeveloping our sawmill in Watson Lake, Yukon Terr., Canada. I'd like the views of saw people as to what is the best primary breakdown equipment to select. Some of the issues include- Lodgepole pine (80%) and northern white spruce (20%) make up most of what we process. A very limited labor force with next to no background in saw filing, selection, or repair. Great distance (500-1500 miles) to major repair centers and parts suppliers. Total annual harvest around 40,000m3 of all species. Fiber quality is amazing and almost all wood goes into value added systems in BC and Alta. Historically we produce cants 2x3 to 8x8 and boards from side lumber. No power grid so gen set required. Under the circumstances what do you advise?

I think I would try a 30 degree ATB. Also, increase the tangential angle to 2 or 2.5 degrees.
