We are having trouble with punch-out, also called tear-out while running kiln dry SPF. We run 18 guage bands that are 26 feet long and 7.5 inches wide that have a 120 thousand(0.120") kerf. There are 178 teeth with a pitch width of 1.75" and a 5/8 gullet depth. Our hook angle is set at 30 degrees, 16 degree back clearance angle and a 44 degree sharpness angle all running on a 54" bandmill. Both brass plates on either side of the band have been moved inward towards the band with a gap of 3/32" spacing on either side for added support yet the teeth still extend about 1 3/4" past the lead end of the plates. I've noticed that the wood while running resaw or sawtex ride up the band anywhere from 1/16 to 1/4" off of the brass bedplates. If anyone could help with this problem I would sure appreciate it.
